Graduate Programs
We offer both master's and doctoral programs:
M.S. in Family Sciences
Master's students learn advanced research-based knowledge concerning topics such as parent-child relations, dating and marital relations, human sexuality, lifespan human development, family conflict and violence, adolescent development, aging, couple and family therapy, managing family resources, personal finance, family economics, family financial counseling, and family processes. Four emphasis areas are available: adolescent development, couple and family therapy, family finance and economics, and family processes. Graduates are prepared for evidence-based practice and rapid career advancement in a wide assortment of helping organizations and agencies. Ph.D. in Family Sciences
Doctoral students build research and analytical skills, as well as the capacity to proficiently critique and produce original scholarship. All doctoral students also have the opportunity to teach at least one undergraduate class at the university, as well as to develop presentation and writing skills. Three emphasis areas are available: adolescent development, family finance and economics, and family processes. Graduates of the doctoral program earn a Ph.D. and routinely find employment in higher education, research agencies, and as leaders of private organizations and pubic agencies, many examples of which can be found on the alumni page.
